Vince

Meet Vince

Vince is a Navy Reservist with young children. Vince had just been called for active duty when he contacted LIFT. While he shared joint custody with his children’s mother, she was unwilling to modify their custody order to ensure that Vince could visit his kids while he was on leave.

Vince had just been called for active duty when he contacted LIFT. While he shared joint custody with his children’s mother, she was unwilling to modify their custody order to ensure that Vince could visit his kids while he was on leave. Vince was also concerned that the mother would transfer the children to another school without his permission and fail to properly administer the children’s asthma medication. He was anxious about his legal rights and worried about the health of his children. We advised him about specific protections for service members with regard to custody issues, reviewed the documentation he needed to gather, helped him file an emergency custody modification petition before he deployed, and let him know his other legal options outside of court. Based on the petition LIFT helped file, Vince was able to get a hearing to address his concerns.
