Meet Alana, grandmother of 9-year-old Clara whom she has co-parented since birth with her daughter. Please take a moment to watch this moving video, narrated by LIFT attorney Nathalie Gonzalez. It tells of Alana’s love for Clara, her determination to facilitate a relationship between Clara and her mother, and her resolve to be a stable, positive influence in her granddaughter’s life. New York State family law recognizes that grandparents have rights to a meaningful relationship with their grandchildren and, in certain cases, to visitation or custody. For many people with limited resources, struggling to protect the children they love, LIFT provides legal information, advice and guidance through Family Court. We are often their first stop — assessing their situation and helping them create a plan for moving forward. To those of us who care about access to justice and about protecting the health and security of families, LIFT is a powerful affirmation of the values we uphold.
