Thanks to our pro bono partnerships, LIFT can reach more people, in more places, throughout New York State and beyond.

A Conversation with LIFT’s Co-Founders

In 1996, three young lawyers — struck by the anxiety and confusion of so many unrepresented litigants in New York State Family Court — came up with a simple yet powerful response. They set up a small table in the lobby of the courthouse and answered questions.

Now in our 25th year, LIFT is the go-to source for legal advice, information and support for court-involved families confronting issues of child support, custody, visitation, and domestic violence across New York State.

In commemoration of our anniversary, we are pleased to share this conversation about the inspiration behind LIFT with its visionary founders: Leslie Abbey, Hon. Liberty Aldrich and Karen Simmons.
